Are there special conditions of entry and assistance for temporarily displaced citizens of Ukraine who leave the country because of the war?

Currently, the Republic of Chile does not have any special program for accepting refugees from Ukraine due to the full-scale Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

You can submit a separate application for registration of refugee status in Chile itself (Servicio Nacional de Migraciones at the address Santiago, San Antonio 580, 3rd floor) or through the Embassy of the Republic of Chile in the Republic of Poland (at the same time as Ukraine).

In addition, you can individually apply to the specified state institution with a request to provide additional assistance.

If there are plans to stay in Chile for a long period of time, it is advisable to apply for refugee status.

What entry restrictions apply due to the COVID-19 coronavirus and what documents must be presented?

A vaccination certificate is mandatory. Exceptions are children under 6 years of age. The following vaccines are recognized by the Republic of Chile: Pfizer-BioNTech, CoronaVac, AZD1222 (AstraZeneca), CanSino, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), SPUTNIK V, Moderna and Sinopharm.

It is also necessary to fill out a medical declaration no more than 48 hours before entering the country.

Foreigners arriving in the Republic of Chile must provide an insurance policy covering cases of COVID-19 in the amount of $30,000. USA

It is recommended to have a negative result of the PCR test for coronavirus, made no more than 72 hours before boarding the last flight (!) bound for the Republic of Chile. Children under 2 years of age are completely exempted from submitting the results of the PCR test.

Crossing the border without a biometric international passport – yes or no?

Entry of citizens of Ukraine to the territory of Chile is carried out on the basis of a foreign passport (both biometric and one that does not contain biometric data).

What to do if the validity period of the foreign passport expires?

Citizens of Ukraine, who are permanently or temporarily staying in the territory of Chile and whose passport has expired, have the opportunity to extend its validity at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Chile (Santiago).

The passport is extended by placing on page 2-5 of the foreign passport the entry “Passport validity extended to __.__.202_”, which is affixed with the seal of the Consular Division. The maximum period of validity of a passport is 5 years, and for children under 12 years of age – no more than the validity period of the passport.

What to do if you have a child without a foreign passport?

If a child under the age of 16 does not have a passport document, information about the child (namely, photo, first and last name, date of birth and unique number (if available) can be entered in the foreign passport of the father/mother or legal representative.
