Should I apply for official refugee status?
You should not worry about the official status of refugees.
All travelers (including children) arriving in or leaving the Maldives are required to complete a Health Declaration within 48 hours before departure.
All travelers must have a valid negative PCR test done no later than 96 hours before boarding the plane. Children under the age of 1 (one) year are exempt from the test.
All travelers, excluding those arriving on a tourist visa, must undergo a PCR test for COVID-19 between the 3rd and 5th day of their stay in the Maldives.
Travellers of the following categories are exempt from quarantine requirements upon arrival:
– Persons entering the Maldives on a tourist visa.
– Diplomatic visa holders and their dependents who are fully vaccinated.
– Fully vaccinated work visa holders and their dependents.
– Individuals who have recently recovered from COVID-19 and received a positive PCR test result.
– Children under 12 (twelve) years of age.
The vaccination against COVID-19 is considered complete if 14 days have passed since the completion of the administration of the prescribed doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 approved by the Maldives Food and Drug Administration or WHO.
Mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival is required for the following categories of passengers:
– Maldivian citizens and long-term visa holders (except tourists) who have not received all prescribed doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
– Maldivian citizens and long-term visa holders (except tourists) who have not passed 14 (fourteen) days (before the date of arrival) after receiving the prescribed dose of vaccine.
Travelers who are required to self-quarantine must register for pre-approval 24-48 hours prior to travel by emailing the following details to: arrivals.heoc@health .gov.mv
