Location and geography of St. Kitts and Nevis
Saint Kitts and Nevis is a country located in the Caribbean Sea. Its area is 261 square meters. km The islands included in the country’s name are part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago. The eastern neighbor is Antigua and Barbuda, the southeastern one is Montserrat . In the northwest, there is a border with the special Dutch municipality of Sint Eustatius. The overseas community of France Saint Barthelemy is in the north. All borders pass through the sea. The length of the coast is 135 km. The capital is the city of Buster, located on the island of St. Kitts.
Population of St. Kitts and Nevis
As of 2019, the total population is 50 thousand people. The majority (37 thousand) live on the island of St. Kitts. In terms of ethnic composition, more than 90% of the country is black and only a little more than 1% is white. There are also 3% Indians and 5% mulattoes.
Nature in St. Kitts and Nevis
Both islands were formed as a result of volcanic eruptions. The highest point of St. Kitts is the long-extinct Liamiuga volcano, whose height is 1155 m. Now there is a lake in the crater of the volcano. If mountains stretch along the central part of the island, the southeastern part is a more gentle area. There are many salt lakes, on the coast there are many bays and bays, on the shores of which sandy beaches have formed. Some of them have black sand.
On the island of Nevis there is another extinct volcano – Nevis, the height of which is 985 m.
The islands are surrounded by coral reefs. Impassable tropical forests grow on the territory of the islands. The most common types of plants are vines, palm trees, tamarind, mango, avocado, breadfruit and cinnamon trees. The local population grows sugar cane, so part of the territories on the peaks and in the lowlands are occupied by plantations.
Climatic conditions
The climate in St. Kitts and Nevis is tropical, influenced by sea trade winds. That’s why it’s humid and hot here. Both the average temperature is 26°C and the humidity level is almost the same throughout the year. The amount of precipitation is different: in the mountainous area it is about 3500 mm per year, in the lowlands – up to 1500 mm per year. In the period of August-September, the islands can be exposed to cyclones and hurricanes.

The official language on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis is English.

The currency is the East Caribbean dollar (code XCD).

Religion
Most of the islanders are Catholics (almost 72%), another 10% are representatives of other Christian denominations, and 17% of the population are adherents of other religions.
